Development Project Manager

The Division of International Development of the
University of Calgary seeks a Canadian Project Manager
for two years of a five year Community Health
Development Project.  The Canadian Project Manager is to
be based in Kathmandu, Nepal.  He/she will assume
responsibility for the overall management of the project
and prepare for a transfer of management
responsibilities at the termination of the posting
period.  Ideally, applicants should possess experience
in the field of community, health, or rural development.
This should include project management experience;
experience with the operation of non-governmental
organizations;  significant international field
experience, and university teaching and research
experience.  In accordance with Canadian immigration
requirements, priority will be given to Canadian
citizens and permanent residents of Canada.  This
appointment is subject to approval by the Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA) and is funded
from external sources.  This is not a University
appointment.  Candidates should send a letter of

Salary Information: Basic Salary:  $51,597 at single rate

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Education:  A university degree
in a health related profession and a master's degree in
epidemiology or public health.  An M.D. or a
postgraduate degree in a health related profession would
be an asset. Experience: At national level:  Seven years
of experience with managerial responsibilities in
epidemiology and health situation analysis.  Experience
in the administration of health services related to
surveillance, training communicable diseases, research
and evaluation.  At international level:  Two years of
participation in technical cooperation programs and
activities in epidemiology, health surveillance,
application of epidemiology in health services, training
and research.  Languages:  Very good knowledge of
Spanish with a working knowledge of English.

Salary Information:  Basic Salary: $48,019 at single

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education:  A postgraduate degree
to at least the master's level in computer sciences,
systems engineering, engineering, mathematics,
business administration or a field related to systems
analysis and software development.  Experience:   A
combination of nine years experience at the national
and international level in the application of management
and information processing techniques to the solution of
complex administrative systems problems.  Experience
should include managerial responsibility for the
development of large and diverse information processing
projects involving other systems analysts, programmers,
the evaluation of hardware and software, as well as
interaction with managerial staff and users.  At least
two years experience supervising the design and
implementation of computer projects and four years
involved in programming major administrative systems.
Skills:  The incumbent must have a thorough
understanding of administrative business processes such
as budget, accounting, payroll, personnel and
procurement and must be familiar with the theory and
practical application of software development project
management, relational database theory, visual
programming concepts and programming for systems that
use the mainframe and personal computers simultaneously.
Skills in specific products should include:  Windows,
DOS, SQL, CASE tools and Microsoft tools for client-
server development.  Knowledge of CICS, COBOL, VSE,
Visual Basic, Access and SQL Server would be helpful.
Languages:  Very good knowledge of English. A working
knowledge of Spanish would be an asset.

Conference on Ageing in Eastern Europe
--------------------------------------------------------
"Ageing into the 21st Century - The East and Central
Europe Experience" To be held April 4-6 1998 in
Ljubljana, Slovenia.  The conference will provide an
opportunity for information exchange and debate about
health and care issues facing older people in ECE.
Objectives: to launch 1999, the UN Year for Older
Persons in East and Central Europe; to provide a forum
for the exchange of information about heath and care
issues in the region; to raise awareness of ageing
issues within the region; to raise awareness of the
existence of the East and Central European Network.
