Hi Charlene,

You might be interested in the Cultural Competence Guide for Health Professionals developed by the Nova Scotia Health Dep't Diversity and Social Inclusion office (http://www.gov.ns.ca/health/primaryhealthcare/Diversity.htm). Among lots of other great info, the guide does have some organizational and health professional assessment tools. Here's the link for the guide:

http://www.gov.ns.ca/health/primaryhealthcare/pubs/Cultural_Competence_guide_for_Primary_Health_Care_Professionals.pdf

Hope that helps,

Subject: Needs / Capacity Assessment

Hello fellow subscribers.

I am a student working with Public health in Healthy Babies / Healthy
Children. I am looking at developing a Needs/Capacity Assessment of the
staff around their experiences in working with families from a variety of
different backgrounds. The geographical area the staff serves is becoming
more diverse but many of the staff have not worked with many families of
different backgrounds, cultures etc. I am trying to assess the staff’s
needs in this area and their current capacities. I am just wondering if
anyone has done something similar or has any suggestions of good resources
on developing such an assessment.

You can respond to me at [log in to unmask]

Thank you
Charlene Gunn-Hagerman
