Nine Tenure Stream Positions

The new Department of Public Health Sciences has amalgamated the Departments of Behavioural Science; Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics; Occupational and Environmental Health Unit; Graduate Department of Community Health; and the Centre for Health Promotion in building the “Third Generation” of public health at the University of Toronto. This new interdisciplinary Department is focussed on knowledge development and on translating its education, research and professional service into effective and timely action for community health. Exciting opportunities exist with the addition of new tenure-stream positions.
Applications are invited for nine tenure-stream positions in areas described below. Preferred candidates will possess an appropriate doctoral or M.D. degree, a proven record of peer-reviewed publications, and a strong commitment and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching.

Effective Date: 1 July 1999 Closing Date for Applications: 1 March 1999 or when position is filled.
1. Biostatistics (Up to Full Professor level): The successful candidate will have recognized expertise in mathematical statistics and computer intensive methods, including bootstrapping, Monte Carlo modelling.
2. Epidemiology/Community Medicine (Assistant/Associate Professor level): The successful candidate will have expertise in chronic diseases, such as: cancer, disability, injury, cardiovascular.
3. Social Sciences (Assistant/Associate Professor level): The successful candidate will have expertise at the macro level, such as: health/social policy, structural determinants, comparative health systems, political economy, macro level research methods.
4.Occupational/Environmental (Assistant/Associate Professor level): The successful candidate will have expertise in occupational hygiene, such as: occupational/environmental hazard prevention, exposure assessment/control, risk assessment/modelling.

5. Biostatistics (Assistant/Associate Professor level): The successful candidate will have expertise in genetic statistics or epidemic modelling.
6. Health Promotion (Assistant/Associate Professor level): The successful candidate will have expertise in the environment and/or policy.
7. Epidemiology/Community Medicine (Assistant/Associate Professor level): The successful candidate will have expertise in applied social/evaluative sciences, such as: public health/health care practice; social inequalities; demographic shifts; alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
8. Biostatistics/Epidemiology (Assistant/Associate Professor level): The successful candidate will have expertise in applied quantitative methods, such as: survey sampling and analysis, measurement, multilevel data analysis, multivariate modelling.
9. Social Sciences (Up to Full Professor level): The successful candidate will have recognized expertise in theory and research methods at the micro level: individual/group/interactional.

Note: Under exceptional circumstances, a candidate for positions 2 through 8 may be recruited at the full professor level, and position 5 through 9 effective 1 July 2000 may be filled earlier.
