RESEARCH CONTRACT OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE

Research Associate
Women & Addictions Project
Contract, February 1999 – January 2000 (flexibility possible)
Description: 1) To conduct policy relevant, feminist research in the area of
women’s tobacco use and other addictions and dependencies. 2) To write proposals
for external funding for tobacco and related areas. 3) To support the addictions
& dependencies working group.
Qualifications: Social science or health-related MA required, PhD preferred;
relevant publication record; experience with policy analysis and proposal
writing; desire to work collaboratively.
Contract amount to be determined. Closing date:  January 19, 1998

Research Associate
Mid-life Health Needs of Women with Disabilities
Contract, February, 1999 – October, 1999
Description: To coordinate, conduct, and write the final report for a
qualitative research project, co-facilitated by the Pacific DAWN: Pacific
DisAbled Women’s Network, on the Health Needs of Women with Disabilities. This
project entails discussions with women with disabilities about their mid-life
health information needs and the best ways to provide information about mid-life
health issues to women with disabilities. A particular focus of this project to
document the experiences of women with mental disabilities during mid-life.
Topics may include menopause, bone health, heart health and mental health. Some
travel required.
Preferred Qualifications: Social science or health-related post-graduate
training (or equivalent experience); knowledge of mid-life health issues;
knowledge of issues for women with disabilities; qualitative research
experience; plain language writing skills; ability to work with diverse groups
of women; excellent interpersonal skills; experience with collaborative
research. Applications from women with disabilities are encouraged.

Research Associate
The Implications of Health Reform in BC for Women and Women’s Health
$4,000 Contract, January 25, – February 27, 1999
This project entails preparing a report on the experiences in British Columbia
of privatization and the effects on women and women’s health.  This project does
not entail original research but rather identification of research currently
underway.  Detailed RFP available upon request. Call 604.875.2633.

Research Assistant
Gender-Inclusive Health Planning Project
$18/hr, Part-time contract, February 2, – August 31, 1999
To support a project on Gender-Inclusive Health Planning in BC.
Responsibilities will include preparing a literature review, synthesizing policy
documents, assisting in the development of a planning kit and other tasks
related to this project.
Preferred Qualifications: Postgraduate education in the social sciences, women’s
studies, or health sciences; familiarity with public health system in BC, basic
statistics, women’s health issues; excellent writing skills.
Closing: January 29, 1999
