# OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this workshop is to make accessible to
practitioners of all disciplines, the practical applications of
theory and established research on attachment relationships in
children and their caregivers.The workshop is being offered to
community and agency personnel who provide services for infants,
young children and their families.
By the end of the two-day workshop participants should be able to:
1.Identify characteristics of the caregiving environment that
contribute to each of the four major patterns of attachment in
children;
2.Describe methods to assess both the observed interactions and the
internal working models that characterize caregiverchild
relationships;
3.Discuss the importance of early identification and intervention
with regard to attachment and parenting difficulties in children and
adults; discuss the health and socio-emotional consequences
associated with each of the four major patterns of attachment;
4.Develop specific strategies for intervention which address
difficulties in caregiverchild attachment relationships in the home
and in the community.
# WORKSHOP PRESENTER
Dr. Diane Benoit is a staff psychiatrist in the Infant Psychiatry
Program and Associate Scientist at the Research Institute of the
Hospital for Sick Children. She is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry
at the University of Toronto and her clinical, research and teaching
activities relate to problems experienced by parents and children
during the early years.
Dr. Benoit has done extensive research and published in the fields
of parent-infant attachment relationships, parenting, feeding
disorders, failure-to-thrive and brief focused intervention. The
application of attachment theory and research to practice, early
observation, assessment and intervention represent a major area of
interest for her and are the focus of this workshop.

Blues Hills Child and Family Services is sponsoring the conference
"Attachment in Caregivers and Children" as part of the 30th
Anniversary activities of the Agency. A goal of the conference is to
make research and theory on attachment available for practical
application by community service providers, professionals and others
who are working with caregivers and children at risk for attachment
and parenting difficulties. Blue Hills was founded in 1968 to
provide a range of children's mental health services to the
community, as well as training for children's mental health workers.
# WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This two-day workshop will have useful practical applications for
community service providers, professionals And others in health
care, mental health, early education and child protection who work
with caregivers and children at risk for attachment and parenting
difficulties.

Registration Fee for the Two-Day Workshop IS $150.00
