Toronto named host of the 2006 International AIDS Conference:  On
December 1, 2003, World AIDS Day, the International AIDS Society
officially announced that Toronto will host the XVI International AIDS
Conference, to be held August 13-19, 2006.  AIDS 2006 will bring 15,000
to 20,000 of the world's leading scientists, health care workers,
activists and community leaders together to share current knowledge on

Health Canada Monitors Avian Flu:  Health Canada continues to closely
monitor occurrences of avian influenza A (H5N1) or "bird flu" outbreaks
in several Asian countries. Outbreaks have been confirmed in Japan,
South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and now Cambodia. The outbreaks have
affected millions of chickens in these countries combined, as well as
several human cases in Vietnam and Thailand. In addition, reports
indicate that pigs and ducks have also been infected. For further

Giving HIV+ Youth a Voice:  HIV positive youth (29 years old and
younger) are invited to participate in the Canadian AIDS Society's 2004
People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHIV/AIDS) Forum. Registration is FREE.
The PLWHIV/AIDS Forum is a gathering of HIV positive individuals from
all across Canada. The point of the Forum is to bring HIV positive
individuals together to talk about the issues that are most important to
them, and to then pass on these issues (as "Resolutions") to the
Canadian AIDS Society's Annual General Meeting (AGM).  The Forum is a
three-day event, to be held from Wednesday June 16th to Friday June
18th, 2004 in Ottawa, Ontario.  If you have any questions or concerns,

Canadian Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) Seminar
invitation:  Dr Joseph Decosas, Health Advisor of Plan International in
West Africa will facilitate a seminar entitled "Adolescent sexual
health: rethinking our approach to AIDS education" on 1st April 2004
from 10.00 am to 11.30 am. The seminar will be held in the Canadian
Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) Board Room on the 3rd

Institute Advisory Board (IAB)  Membership - Annual Recruitment of New
Members: The 2004 cycle of IAB membership renewal is underway. A
turnover of about 45 of the over 200 members is expected. Applications
will be accepted online until April 7, 2004. New members will be invited
to serve terms of three years beginning September 1, 2004.  For

Research Associate, End of Life Care-New Emerging Team: The Palliative
Care Research Group of the Élisabeth Bruyère Research Institute (ÉBRI)
under the leadership of Dr. Pierre Allard is looking for a Research
Associate for its “End of Life Care for Seniors-New Emerging Team
(ELCS-NET)”.  ELCS-NET is a new project funded by the Canadian
Institutes of Health Research ($1.5M over the next five years).  If you

Director:  The mission of MAHCP is to advance and preserve the economic
and social well being of members through negotiations with employers, to
protect members from arbitrary or unjust treatment by employers, to
lobby various and appropriate governmental departments, to represent
collective concerns to the public, various agencies, organizations, and
business while promoting the highest standards of health care. The

Canadian Coalition for Public Health in the 21st Century writes letter
to Prime Minister Martin: CCPH recently wrote a letter encouraging Prime
Minister Martin to follow through on his commitment to public health in
the upcoming budget. Given the prominence of health protection in the
2004 Speech from the Throne, CCPH believes that delivery on this key.
They also state that the 2004/05 Budget will be a litmus test of the
government’s commitment to public health.  For more information, see
