Vol. 22, No. 1, 2002

Various stages of a woman's reproductive life - characterized by different
priorities for contraception and disease protection, as well as different
needs for reproductive health information - are highlighted in this issue of
Network. Adolescents, for example, need information about both abstinence
and the use of contraceptive methods. Women in their peak childbearing years
need to understand that contraceptive use will not jeopardize their
fertility, but that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can. Meanwhile,
women approaching menopause need to be aware of their continuing risks for
unplanned pregnancy and STI infection.

Les diverses étapes de la vie reproductive d'une femme - caractérisées par
des priorités spécifiques en matière de contraception et de prévention des
maladies, aussi bien que par des besoins particuliers en matière
d'informations sur la santé de la reproduction - sont mises en valeur dans
ce numéro de Network en français. Les adolescents, par exemple, ont besoin
non seulement d'informations sur l'abstinence mais aussi sur les différentes
méthodes contraceptives. Les femmes qui vivent leurs années les plus
fécondes ont besoin de comprendre que la contraception n'endommagera pas
leur fertilité (capacité de concevoir), mais qu'en revanche les infections
sexuellement transmissibles (IST) peuvent le faire. Les femmes qui
approchent de la ménopause, elles, doivent savoir que le risque d'une
grossesse non planifiée ou d'une IST existe toujours.
