Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In recent months the news headlines have been filled with stories related to
college drinking and the consequences of drinking, from student injuries to
deaths. Campus administrators, health educators, policy makers, parents and
students alike have been asking the same question, "What are the best ways
to prevent the harmful consequences of college drinking?" Today, the
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), NIH, provides
strategies and solutions based on research and you can find them at
http://www.CollegeDrinkingPrevention.gov!

CollegeDrinkingPrevention.gov is an online resource center for changing the
drinking culture on college campuses! The content of the site is based on a
series of reports published by the Task Force of the National Advisory
Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, which found that prevention efforts
and policies will meet with much greater success when based on science-based
research. In particular, the Task Force recommends the use of a 3-in-1
Framework in any approach to reduce or prevent student drinking. This
approach suggests that prevention strategies simultaneously target three
audiences: the student population as a whole; the college and its
surrounding environment; and the individual at-risk or alcohol-dependent
drinker.

In addition to reading the Task Force's reports and recommendations, we
invite you to visit the site and access valuable resources, including:

-  Research studies and NIAAA funding opportunities;

-  Facts and frequently asked questions on alcohol abuse and alcoholism;

- College and university alcohol policies throughout the United States;

- Tips, techniques and statistics for campus health administrators, college
presidents, community leaders, guidance counselors, media, parents, and
RAs/peer educators; and

 - Special section just for students, with interactive tools to see the
effects of alcohol on one's body, calculate BAC, calories and cost of
drinking, send e-cards to friends, download free posters, get the facts, and
find places to go for help.

We are excited to share this innovative resource with you and look forward
to your feedback. We'd also like to ask your help in getting the word out
about the site. We're relying on word of mouth and on organizations like
yours to get the word out among your networks and colleagues. In addition,
we would like to have you link to the site! We have created special banner
ads that you can use on your Web site, and they are available at
http://www.collegedrinkingprevention.gov/linktous.aspx.  Of course, you can
also add a text link and we'd love to know if you do!

If you have any questions about the site, or you'd like to tell us what you
think, please contact us at [log in to unmask] Thank
you for your help and support.

Sincerely,
Kerstin Demko
