NOTICE OF VACANCY


CLASSIFICATION TITLE:          Research Consultant

LOCATION: Toronto-Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:      Temporary Full-Time Contract: (November 12, 2001 to February 1, 2002)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Toronto Cancer Prevention Coalition's Dietary Risk Factors Working Group (DRFWG) is seeking a Research Consultant to conduct a systematic literature review identifying best practices related to increasing vegetable and fruit consumption in adolescents and to plan and implement an environmental scan of current activities in Toronto.

TASKS & KEY DELIVERABLES:
· Conduct a systematic literature review that would identify best practices in increasing vegetable and fruit consumption in adolescents, in consultation with the project management team.
· The review should include, but need not be limited to such aspects as effective health promotion strategies, current consumption data, critical analysis of healthy eating programs and interventions targeted to adolescents, both school based and non-school based, including methodology, measurement tools, outcomes of interests, theoretical frameworks used and sustainability of change.
· Work collaboratively with the project management team with respect to the framework for the report.
· Provide weekly updates to the project management team.
· Plan and implement an environmental scan in order to identify current nutrition activities in Toronto that work for adolescents, documenting key factors contributing to program effectiveness.  Summarize findings.
· Write a final report summarizing literature review and environmental scan.  Report to include recommendations about how to proceed with the research project and highlight the components of ideal interventions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
· Requires a post-graduate degree in a relevant health related field of study such as: program evaluation, community health, health promotion or nutrition plus a minimum of 3 years of related practical experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
· The Research Consultant must have demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:
· conducting thorough review of scientific literature using electronic and print resources
· reviewing and critiquing literature
· familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
· the role of diet and cancer, and adolescent nutrition
· population health, health promotion and health promotion strategies
· planning and conducting an environmental scan
· report writing skills

SALARY RANGE:   Fee:  $ 5,150
