The one thing that strikes me about the Mark Twain Boyhood Home (its proper
name) in Hannibal, is the accessibility of its director, Henry Sweets, who
not only is knowledgeable in regard to Twain, but who also is an a naturally
helpful and outgoing person.
Having had occasion to call the place several times, it always is a pleasure
to hear that voice on the other end, identifying himself as Henry Sweets,
and
speaking to one as if he were just another one of the hired help.
This man is a treasure and, without putting him in a spot, I would like to
say that you probably could give him a call, let him know you are on your
way, I just about could guarantee you a royal welcome.
Good luck, and let us know about your visit.
Marc Koechig
P.S.-
The previous information about the weather is more than true. It can be
murderous. Take a broad-brimmed hat and lots of loose, light clothing. mwk
