Helping Women Recover - Substance Use & Trauma

In the past 20 years our knowledge of women’s lives has grown dramatically.
This growth has added significantly to our understanding of the treatment
needs of women dealing with the impact of addiction and abuse on their
lives. This workshop is designed to provide counsellors, clinicians,
recovering women and others with a deeper understanding of the current
knowledge related to women’s addiction and trauma issues. The major focus
will be on recovery with an emphasis on issues related to self,
relationship, sexuality and spirituality and the therapeutic techniques for
dealing with these issues. This comprehensive, integrated and developmental
model for women’s treatment is based on Dr. Covington’s latest publication
Helping Women Recover. Throughout the workshop, Dr. Covington will also be
discussing the use of this model with the most hidden women in our society -
those in the criminal justice system.
