   D.C. Hunger Action if an eleven-year old
grassroots anti-hunger organization.  We are
committed to a vision of food security--the
access, by all people, at all times, to enough
nutritious, acceptable food to lead a healthy,
productive life.  We are dedicated to fighting
hunger and poverty in the nation's capital through
information and referral, advocacy, and outreach.

The Director of Child Nutrition Programs manages
and directs the Building Blocks Project.  Building
Blocks is an exciting and successful project that
finds creative ways of linking the anti-hunger
community with the education community.  By using
this model, D.C. Hunger Action seeks to strengthen
and expand child nutrition programs in the
District of columbia.

D.C. Hunger Action seeks a Director of Child
Nutrition Programs to build upon the existing
project and strengthen its nutrition and community
outreach components.

The project's goals include:
- making all school officials fully aware of the
benefits provided by child nutrition programs and
how to initiate and improve them;
- Making food and nutrition programs a central
part of all education-based programs, including
those that take place in school, before and after
school, and in the community
- involving parents on behalf of their children in
the areas of nutrition and learning.

Successful candidates will have the following
skills:
- commitment to ending childhood hunger
- community organizing skills--the ability to
energize parents, teachers, school officials, and
social service providers to work together
- familiarity with sound nutrition practices and
the ability to convey nutrition concepts to a
variety of audiences, including children, parents
and educators
- policy analysis--the ability to recognize
unnecessary barriers to participation in child
nutrition programs
- advocacy skills--the ability to campaign for
change
- ability to manage multiple priorities and meet
deadlines
- ability to interact with a diverse group of
people
- strong writing, critical thinking and analyical
skills.

Salary and Benefits:  Salary is in the high
twenties. D.C. Hunger Action pays the full costs
of its employees health and insurance benefits.
