Pap tests are effective screening for cervical cancer. However, some women do not get
regular pap tests. This study investigates how women-centred care principles
contribute to the uptake of pap screening in three ethno-cultural groups.
A collective case study was conducted to explore components of women-centred care and
factors influencing their implementation within the context of pap testing services
for Asian, South Asian and First Nations women.
Three key elements of women-centred care will be described in detail. Changes
required to health policy and the structure of health services to fully implement
principles of women-centred care in health care programs will be identified.
