Peel Committee Against Woman Abuse

Assistant Coordinator
9 - Month Contract Position with Possibility of Renewal

The Peel Committee Against Woman Abuse (PCAWA) is a coordinating committee of over 45
agencies
from the social service, health, judicial, ethno-specific, and educational sectors working
together to
promote a comprehensive and effective community response to woman abuse in the Region of
Peel.
Key areas of focus are education/prevention, policy and resource development, and research
and
advocacy. We do not provide direct service to women who have experienced violence.

Specific Responsibilities
* Assist with organizing and facilitating sub-committee’s, including taking of minutes and
developing
meeting agenda’s
* Special events planning, community outreach, and community development
* Provide administrative support to the Coordinator
* Research and develop resource materials on violence against women issues
* Develop and distribute the PCAWA newsletter and other mailings
* Assist with the development and delivery of workshops and seminars on VAW issues
* General administrative duties including maintenance of the PCAWA database, filing system
and
updating of the website

Qualifications
* Comprehensive knowledge of and sensitivity to violence against women issues
* Knowledge of VAW services in Peel and some knowledge of the criminal justice, social
service, and
health systems as they relate to woman abuse
* Experience working with diverse communities and a commitment to social justice
* Relevant post secondary education or equivalent combination of training and work
experience
* Exceptional computer skills (MS Office Suite, MS Outlook, Internet)
* Solid research and communication (oral and written) skills
* Exceptional organizational and critical thinking skills
* General administrative office experience
* Experience in taking minutes and facilitating meetings is an asset
* Proven ability to multi-task and work independently
* Applicants with inter-agency collaboration or committee experience will be given
preference

Successful applicants will have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Start Date: August 26, 2002
Hours:  21 - 28 hours per week (flexible)
Salary: In accordance with experience
