Short Course - Social Determinants of Indigenous Health

8 ? 12 March 2004, Crowne Plaza Hotel Darwin, Northern Territory,
Australia

This five day short course will systematically explore the impact of the
social environment on the health of Indigenous Australians. The focus will
be on the upstream factors that influence health. These include issues
such as racism, history, poverty, employment and education. We will look
for ways to approach policy and intervention that take the social context
into account. The course will present the basic tools of social
epidemiology through the use of lectures, case studies and group
exercises.

Who should attend? - Post-graduate students, researchers, health service
providers, policy makers, anyone interested in increasing their
understanding of health in a wider social context.
