This article was published, in the electronic version of BMJ, just a few days ago.
Congratulations to the BMJ!!
Readers may also care to take a look at the specificly mental health evidence as presented
in http://sites.netscape.net/mytanwy/physical
The page has also a link to the document, co-authored by Professor Harry Owen, immediate
past president of the Bicycle Federation of Australia (BFA), entitled Pedalling Health.
The BFA, together with other organisations, is currently working on developing the
Australian National Cycling Strategy. Part of this strategy, already adopted at Federal
government level, may involve partnerships based on health and health promotion.
The site http://www.topica.com/lists/bicycle may also be of interest. It contains
information about an email discussion group, the focus of which is the link between
physical activity and mental health. A majority of members of this list work in health or
health promotion roles within Australia. The past archives contain substantial material of interest.
Readers may also be interested in a proposed Physical Activity for Mental Health bicycle
ride, which I will be undertaking alone or with others, to take place in July or August of
this year. The 4000 klm ride, Coffs to Kakadu, is likely to start at Coffs Harbour on the
Australian east coast and finish at Kakadu National Park (Northern Territory, Australia).
It will be designed so as to raise publicity (as to the health benefits of physical
activity). Further details may be obtained from myself.
sincerely,
Kate Mytanwy
