This is Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
Here's a list of events related to this week from the OHPE bulletin and it
is followed by a short description of eating disorder clinics/services in
the Toronto area and beyond, as taken from last year's OHPE bulletin #142
and Bulletin #143.1 and 143.2 written by Karin Davis

The National Eating Disorder Information Centre presents:

EATING DISORDER AWARENESS WEEK 4 - 10 February 2001

* Body-Image and Self-Esteem: Help and hindrance for women of colour
* A panel discussion in which we honor and celebrate the racial and
cultural diversity of bodies and raise awareness about body image and body
politics in communities of colour.  Panelists include: Zahra Dhanani,
lawyer, activist and co-host of Masala Mixx on CKLN; Ann Shin, National Film
Board of Canada, Director of Asian Eyes; Trey Anthony, playwright and
comedian whose work has been featured at Second City and as a part of From
the Soul: The Urban Talk Show; and Iyabo Musa, a nutritionist working in the
area of weight management.

*  Fearless Friday - an evening of celebration
An evening of comedy, song and improvisation by Albert Howell (Second
City;Devil's Advocate); Peter Oldring (Second City; Sin City) and Joanne
O'Sullivan (The Sexy Dance; Stand Off) amongst others.  Join us in
celebrating life regardless of size, weight or shape.

NEDIC is a Toronto-based, non-profit organization, established in 1985 to
provide information and resources on eating disorders and weight
preoccupation. A primary role of the Centre is to raise general awareness
around the issues of eating disorders, food, and weight preoccupation

ANAB is comprised of concerned health professionals, volunteers, parents,
friends, siblings, and recovered (or recovering) individuals who have had or
who do have an eating disorder. ANAB mission is to facilitate, advocate and
coordinate support for any individual directly or indirectly affected by
eating disorders, and to raise public awareness through improved
communication and the provision of education within our community.

A coalition of individuals and organizations in Peel interested in
prevention and treatment of eating disorders. Compiles and distributes a
resource directory (which is at the above web site address) and the Every
BODY Is A Somebody : Facilitators Guide for use with female adolescents.
Education meetings 3 times per year.

Also in the Toronto area - the Regional Women's Health Centre of
Sunnybrook-Women's College Hospital has a 'body image' program and clinical
program specialist Carla Rice, working specifically on eating disorders
issues.
