PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centres Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Canadian PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centres will take place on
Sunday, November 12, 2000 from 9:30 - 11:30 at Palais des Congres in Hull, Quebec. The
meeting will be chaired by Dr. Juan Antonio Casas, Director, Division of Health and Human
Development, Pan American Health Organization.

Health and Human Development in the New Global Economy
Soon to be available from PAHO, this publication is the result of a collaborative effort between
the Division of Health and Human Development of the Pan American Health Organization
(PAHO) and the WHO Collaborating Centre for International Health at the University of Texas
Medical Branch (UTMB). The chapters are based on the proceedings from a
Seminar/Workshop held in Galveston, Texas, October 26-28, 1998.

Health Sector Reform in the Americas is Focus of Special Journal Issue
Steps that the countries of North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean have taken to
make their health care systems more effective and more accessible to all people - and the
results of those efforts - are explored in depth in a new issue of the "flagship" journal of the Pan
American Health Organization, the Pan American Journal of Public Health.

The Canadian Red Cross Seeks a Program Manager,
Asia/Pacific & Middle East (Permanent full-time)
Deadline for applications:November 6, 2000.
The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization, dedicated to helping
Canadians, as well as the victims of conflicts or disasters throughout the world, is seeking a
manager for the Asia/Pacific & Middle East program. This program is currently focused in
China, Sri Lanka, North Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Palestine, with potential to
include other regions in the future. The program supports initiatives in the area of primary health
care, disaster preparedness, promotion of humanitarian values, capacity building and, supports
communities affected by armed conflicts.

La Societe canadienne de la Croix-Rouge, organisme humanitaire sans but lucratif qui se
consacre a venir en aide aux Canadiens et aux victimes de conflits ou de catastrophes partout
dans le monde, cherche a pourvoir le poste de gestionnaire de programme, Asie/Pacifique et
Moyen-Orient. Ce programme de la Croix-Rouge canadienne (CRC) porte actuellement sur la
Chine, le Sri Lanka, la Coree du Nord, les Philippines, l'Indonesie, l'Inde et la Palestine, mais
pourrait inclure d'autres regions plus tard. Le programme appuie notamment des initiatives en
soins de sante primaires, la preparation aux catastrophes, la promotion des valeurs
