FOOD-BORNE DISEASES ON THE RISE IN EUROPE - BETTER CONSUMER PROTECTION
NEEDED

Food safety and quality need to be improved in all European countries
since food-borne diseases have increased significantly in the region in
the past decade. Diseases caused by microbiological hazards and foods
contaminated by chemical hazards, such as dioxin, lead and cadmium, are
on the rise. To address these issues, food safety experts are meeting in
Budapest this week at the First Pan-European Conference on Food Safety
and Quality.
