Subject: 6th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Control

Dear colleague,

From May 12th to 15th, 2002, Canada will welcome the world as the hosts of
the 6th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Control in the amazing
city of Montreal. The theme of this conference will be Injuries, Suicide
and Violence: Building Knowledge, Policies and Practices to Promote a
Safer World.

When it comes to enhancing the safety of populations, the health, social
sciences, public security, transportation, justice, occupational,
recreation and sports sectors all have an important role to play. The
purpose of the conference is to bring together the stakeholders to
facilitate exchange between sectors and disciplines; promote the sharing
of knowledge and intervention models and encourage partnerships between
the public and private sectors.

The conference will include plenary sessions on topics of concern to all
professions (e.g., the influence of the media on the safety of
populations; the role of policies and laws) and state-of-the-art
presentations focusing on their respective fields. Simultaneous
translation of these sessions and the opening and closing ceremonies will
be available in French and possibly Spanish. Additionally, as the focus is
to facilitate exchange, parallel sessions (oral presentations, round
tables and debates) and poster sessions will be organised around six major
themes: Road Safety, Occupational Safety, Sport, Leisure, Home,
Institutional and Product Safety, Suicide Prevention, Violence Prevention
and Post-trauma care and Rehabilitation.

We are committed to making this the best World Injury Meeting to date.
Please visit out web site at www.trauma2002.com for more details on the
conference and affiliated events. A general call for abstracts has been
issued and is available on our web site. The deadline for submitting an
abstract is September 15, 2001.

Canada hopes you will start making plans now to attend Montreal in May
2002. We look forward to seeing you there!
