Subject: Re: Childhood anaemia

Hello Annette,
I am working as a health planning coordinator with the Simon Fraser Health
Region near Vancouver, BC in Canada. when I was working in Surrey BC, where
there is a large Indo-Canadian population, I was told the anemia problem in
toddlers was common. I am not sure if they have any specific programs to
address it but the public health nurses did a lot of nutrition teaching in
their contacts with families with an aim to prevent this. I will try to get
a contact for you there. In the meantime, I understand that Dr. Sheila
Innis has undertaken 2 studies on this issue in Vancouver. Her email
address is [log in to unmask] if you want to pursue it with her.

I have a favour to ask of you, actually, on a different topic since you are
from England. I have been trying to obtain a copy of a pre-school behaviour
screening instrument called the MODIFIED BEHAVIOUR CHECKLIST (BCL). The
older version may have been called the Preschool Behaviour Checklist. On a
lit. search, I came across an article by Paul Stallard, a psychologist in
the Bath district, on this instrument. He said it was used routinely in
that region. I have not been able to contact him or find a lit. source for
the actual tool. Would you be able to help me out with this?

Subject: Childhood anaemia

Greetings from England.
I have "lurked" on your network for sometime and found some of your
discussions very informative and interesting. Thank you
I work a facilitator for Public Health Practice for Health Visitors and
School Nurses in an inner City area with many cultures.

We have an anaemia problem in the toddler population particularly in our
Asian community which we are trying to look at different ways of addressing.

Has anyone got any experience of this area of health promotion, specifically
around this concern?

Thank you, with hope
Annette Hogarth
