2. Dr. Ralph Masi has been heavily involved in this stuff for many years; he
was the impetus behind the founding of Ontario Multicultural Health
Coalition, the Canadian Council on Multicultural Health, etc. Try him at the
U of Toronto, Health Promotion Program (I'm not sure he's still there, but
they may know how to get in touch with him)
3. City of Toronto Public Health Department has lengthy history of such
involvements (although I don't know about their current status re this):

I thought I might focus upon cultural competencies in mental health
services. What we do for people from other cultures. At present the health
system is set up for the white middle class literate population. It fails
you if you do not fit into these categories.
I want to develop competencies that are not bound by standards, which seems
the way that they are developed in the UK. Blame is firmly but onto the
client for not conforming, and the standards so general that they can mean
anything.
For example: Communication - The patient will have access to an
interpreter. But it does not say that the Service has to provide an
interpreter, and that this interpreter needs to not only be linguistically
able but also culturally competent. So basically I want to visit a mental
health site that has some excellent mental health services for south Asian
populations (Indian).
