Positions in Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Memorial University of Newfoundland


The Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland seeks two full
time tenure-track faculty members, one in Epidemiology and the other in
Biostatistics, in the Division of Community Health. Level of appointment
will be consistent with the qualifications of the successful applicants.

Candidates for the position in Epidemiology should preferably have
experience in population-based outcome studies; community needs assessment,
or evaluation of health promotion activities. Required qualifications for
this position are a Ph.D. in an appropriate health science or an MD with a
Masters degree in Community Health, Epidemiology or related field.
Post-doctoral experience will be considered an asset.

Candidates for the position of Biostatistics should hold at least a Masters
degree and preferably a Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Applied Statistics or in a
related area, and have experience in applied or health research.

Responsibilities for both positions will include maintaining an active
research program and contributing as appropriate to the undergraduate
medical and graduate teaching programs of the Division of Community Health.
Statistical advice to the graduate and undergraduate students and
clinical/non-clinical Faculty is expected from the Biostatistician.

Priority will be given to individuals with a promising publication record in
refereed journals, and the ability to develop a productive research program
supported by external funding.

Epidemiology and Biostatistics are areas of ongoing emphasis in the Faculty
of Medicine; particular opportunities exist for collaboration in the areas
of population-based epidemiology, health services research, behavioral
sciences, oncology, human genetics, and clinical epidemiology. The Division
of Community Health maintains an active liaison with the Department of
Health and Community Services, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, in
areas of health care planning and research.
