SOUTH ASIA PARTNERSHIP invites you to a seminar on "Women and Environment:
Case Studies From India" presented by Shyamala Mani, Centre for Environment
Education, India, Thursday, March 29, from 12:00 to 2:00, 1 Nicholas St.,
Suite 200, Ottawa.

Marginalised Indian women face many environmental problems on a daily basis
- poor sanitation and housing, resource scarcity, exposure to pollution and
hazardous equipment. Shyamala Mani, Coordinator of the Delhi branch of the
Centre for Environment Education (CEE), has been working on projects in
rural and urban areas to improve women's physical and economic environment.
She will present two case studies - rural Karnataka and waste retrievers in
Bangalore - and outline a framework Northern NGOs and donors can use when
they approach these issues.

Ms Mani has worked for the CEE since 1987. She is completing her Ph D. in
Environmental Sciences at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and has
published several papers on environmental management. Limited seating!

National Standards (Norms) in Hospice Palliative Care Consultation: April
1, 2001

The Canadian Palliative Care Association (CPCA) is pleased to announce that
the final consultation process for National Standards (Norms) in Hospice
Palliative Care will begin next week. The English language pages of the
Internet-based Consultation Process will be open to the public on April
1, 2001 and the consultation will remain open until July 31, 2001. Some
sections of the Consultation Questionnaire may be posted prior to April 1
if people wish to check earlier and acquaint themselves with the materials.
The French language pages of the Consultation will be fully open shortly
after April 1, 2001. To access the Consultation please visit the Web Site

H.E.L.P. course 2001 on humanitarian assistance management
----------------------
This course is intended for health professionals (medical doctors, nurses,
nutritionists, environmental health engineers, epidemiologists, public
health officers and others) as well as professional field workers having a
sufficient understanding of health problems.

The H.E.L.P. course 2001 will be offered in two modules: the first two
weeks will focus on public health interventions and the third week will
deal with international humanitarian law, human rights, responsibilities of
health professionals and ethics.

Dates: May 22 - June 8, 2001, Location: Universite de Montreal (Montreal,
Quebec), Registration fee: $1,800 (including books), Language requirements:
participants must understand both French AND English, Continuing Medical
Education credits are available to physicians (6 category 1 credits per

April 21, 2001 - Day of Caring - Global Youth Service Day
Volunteer Ottawa and United Way/Centraide Ottawa are partnering to host a
Day of Caring for Youth on Global Youth Service Day - April 21, 2001.
During this one day event youth between the ages of 13 and 18 will have the
opportunity to volunteer their time to help community agencies complete
hands-on projects.

Youth will be working in teams of 5 or 10. Adult volunteers will be
accompanying the students. This day is an excellent opportunity for
students to begin or continue with their 40 hour community involvement
requirement.

L'Association canadienne des soins palliatifs (ACSP) est heureuse
d'annoncer que le mecanisme final de consultation sur les Normes nationales
en soins palliatifs commencera la semaine prochaine. Les pages anglaises de
la consultation en ligne sur Internet seront pretes pour le public le 1er
avril 2001, et y resteront jusqu'au 31 juillet 2001. Certaines sections du

Cours H.E.L.P. 2001 sur la gestion de l'aide humanitaire

Ce cours s'adresse aux professionnels de la sante (medecins,
infirmiers/infirmieres, nutritionnistes, ingenieurs sanitaires,
epidemiologistes, agents de sante publique et autres) ainsi qu'aux
personnes ayant travaille sur le terrain dans le domaine de la sante mais
n'ayant pas forcement une formation medicale.

Le cours H.E.L.P. 2001 est constitue de deux modules. Le premier couvre les
aspects de sante publique dans les situations d'urgence. Le second a trait
aux questions ethiques et juridiques liees aux problemes de sante dans les
interventions humanitaires.

21 avril 2001 - Journee mondiale du service des jeunes

Benevoles Ottawa et Centraide/United Way Ottawa tiendront une Journee
d'entraide pour les jeunes. Au cours de cette journee, des equipes de 5 ou
10 jeunes, ages entre 13 et 18 ans, auront l'occasion de s'impliquer aupres
d'organismes sans but lucratif de la region.

Chaque equipe de jeunes sera accompagnee d'un adulte. Cette journee s'avere
une excellente occasion pour les jeunes d'entamer ou de continuer leur
40-heures d'implication communautaire.

La Semaine nationale des soins palliatifs aura lieu du 7 au 13 mai. A

canadienne des soins palliatifs encourage tous les groupes qui planifient
des activites a souligner la contribution des benevoles.
