I am Director of Community Development at the Sherbourne Health Centre, a new ambulatory care facility in downtown Toronto, with a mandate to provide service to population groups who currently face barriers accessing care. This includes an infirmary/recuperative care facility for people who are homeless, and a range of primary care services.

A particular challenge for us in developing the organization is developing mechanisms to ensure that the organization is community-based - in terms of governance, advisory committees, program evaluation and development, advocacy etc.

A second area of interest is in equity and diversity - how to build an organization with a diverse staff that reflects the community - how to address the barriers to making this happen.

Can anyone suggest organizations in New York City which it might be useful for me to visit and do some learning/exchange in these areas?

Thanks

Tony Boston
