Washington, April 5, 2001(PAHO) -- For World Health Day April 7th, which
was dedicated to mental health, the Pan American Health Organization

African countries, The North-South Institute has launched Demanding
Dignity: Women Confronting Economic Reforms in Africa.

Health Canada recently tabled their plans and priorities for the next one
to three years. Key priorities include health care system renewal, safety
and management of risk, promoting optimal health, and First Nations and
Inuit Health. Consistent with the Speech from the Throne, special emphasis
is given to early childhood development and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Jean Chretien and Health Minister Allan Rock has announced
the launch of the Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada to be
headed by Mr. Roy Romanow. The Commission will inquire into and undertake
dialogue with Canadians on the future of Canada's public health care
system.

A temporary office for the Commission on the Future of Health Care

 Overweight and lack of exercise linked to increased cancer risk
--------------------------------------------
This was the main conclusion of a panel of international experts convened
at the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health
Organization (WHO) in Lyon on 13-20 February 2001.
Their full review and evaluation of the relevant scientific information
will be published later this year in Volume 6 of the IARC Handbooks of

Premieres Nations et des Inuits. En conformite avec le discours du Trone,
l'accent est place sur le developpement de l'enfant et sur le developpement

au Canada que presidera M. Roy Romanow. La Commission menera une enquete

 Surpoids et manque d'exercice : Risque accru de cancer

Voila la principale conclusion a laquelle sont parvenus les experts reunis
au Centre international de Recherche sur le Cancer de l'Organisation
mondiale de la Sante (OMS), a Lyon, du 13 au 20
fevrier 2001. L'integralite de leur rapport et l'evaluation de la
litterature scientifique pertinente seront publiees d'ici la fin de l'annee
dans le volume 6 des IARC Handbooks of Cancer Prevention. Pour plus
