Post Title: Epidemiologist; Level: P.4; Post Number: .4853; Duty Station: Washington, D.C.; Tenure: Two years, first year probationary period; Division/Program/Office: Health and Human Development (HDP)
Salary Information: Basic Salary: $48,019 at single rate; Post Adjustment: $11,092 at single rate.
DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the Director, Division of Health and Human Development (HDP) and the administrative and technical supervision of the Program Coordinator, Health Situation Analysis Program (HDP/HDA), the incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of the strategies and activities of HDP/HDA in collaboration with other members of the Program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: A university degree in a health related profession and a Master's degree in epidemiology or public health. An M.D. or a postgraduate degree in a health related profession would be an asset. Experience: At national level: Seven years experience in public health work in activities utilizing the principles and concepts of epidemiology in health situation analysis, health care delivery, disease surveillance, professional training for teaching or research. Must have experience in the design of sample surveys, field trials, and epidemiological research of various diseases. At international level: Two years of participation in technical cooperation programs and activities involving the application of epidemiological principles and methods to disease surveillance, health care planning, training and/or research. Languages: Very good knowledge of English and Spanish. A couple of weeks ago the Society circulated an announcement inviting interested persons to submit their application to be the Society's representative to Health Canada's Committee to Advise on Travel Medicine and Travel (CATMAT). The Society is pleased to inform readers of "Synergy Online" that Dr. Robert Birnbaum, a family physician practicing in Ottawa, and advisor to CUSO and WUSC, has agreed to serve in that capacity.

Lead Trainer/Teacher Wanted, Primary Health Care Project, Hai Duong - Vietnam

In partnership with the Secondary Medical Technology School 1 (SMTS1) of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, we are seeking a dynamic health professional as the lead trainer/teacher for the project "Training Primary Health Care Workers", funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and administered by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. Based in Hai Duong, you will teach and coordinate a nine-month program on primary health care for rural Vietnamese nursing educators. Qualifications: master prepared health professional with at least 5 years of community/primary health care/nurse practitioner and nursing education; strong leadership and administrative skills effectively applied in cross-cultural situations; demonstrated educational skills including curriculum design, implementation and evaluation; participatory teaching methodologies; fluency in oral and written English; working knowledge of oral and written Vietnamese will be an asset, but not necessary.
