probationary period; Division/Program/Office: Disease Prevention and Control

Salary Information: Basic Salary: $48,019 at single rate; Post Adjustment:
$24,586 at single rate; Hardship/Mobility: $2,145 at single rate;
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: A university degree in veterinary medicine
or medicine with a postgraduate degree at least to the master's level in
food microbiology, food science and technology, biochemistry, nutrition or
toxicology or a Ph.D. degree in one of these fields. Experience: At national level: Seven years of professional experience in food protection programs or activities concerned with normatization and standardization of Codex Alimentarius, quality control and good manufacturing practice (GMP), as well as microbiological and chemical analysis of food, food safety and research. Experience should include management, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of contaminants control programs, laboratory programs and national or international reference services, research and training in food protection. At international level: Two years of experience in technical cooperation projects and activities concerned with planning, organizing and implementing food protection and food contaminants control programs, laboratories for food safety and research on food safety and quality control. Languages: Very good knowledge of Spanish or English with a working knowledge of the other.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized
university in finance, accounting or business administration with
specialized formal training in Information Systems Management and/or
Computer Science. Experience: Five years of progressively more responsible
experience in financial management operations, including activities related
to program budgeting and the use of computers in budget formulation and
execution, two of which included experience in program budgeting at the
multinational level. Languages: Very good knowledge of English and
Spanish.

Call for Posters: First International Congress on
Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy (NVP)

The Motherisk Program at the Hospital for Sick Children is organizing the
first International Congress on Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy (NVP).
This event will take place in Toronto, on October 30th and 31st, 1998 and
will be attended by clinicians and scientists from around the world.
During Motherisk's First International Conference on Nausea and Vomiting of
Pregnancy (NVP) to be held in Toronto, October 30th and 31st, 1998, there
will be a Poster Session. Participants are invited to submit abstracts of
posters for the session to be held on October 30th. The deadline for
submission of abstracts is September 9th, 1998. Poster abstracts must
report on research dealing with NVP. Posters accepted for display will be
judged. The winning poster, selected based on quality of research and
presentation, will receive a prize.

Health, Healing and Social Justice: Beginning the
Dialogue - A Dialogue on the Upcoming Removing Barriers
Symposium

A National Symposium is being planned for June, 1998 in Toronto to examine
health and health care for vulnerable and marginalized communities. The
objective of the Symposium is to bring attention to inclusion, diversity,
and social justice within health and health reform.
As a lead up to the Symposium, interested individuals are invited to a half
day pre-symposium morning session, being held in Toronto at the Colony
Hotel. The session is intended to identify issues, content and direction
for the Symposium, and afford an opportunity for discussion on this
important subject. Panelists include Dr. Phil Berger, Chief, Family &
Community Medicine Director, Inner-City Health Programs St. Michael's
Hospital; Dr. Raiser Deber, Dept. of Health Administrtion Faculty of
Medicine, University of Toronto; and Dr. John A. Loftus, John J. Wintermeyer
Chair Department of Psychology University of St. Jerome's College.

duration); Grade: P.5; Official station (country): New Delhi (India);
Organizational location/unit: Regional Office for South-East Asia (SEARO)
Family Health and Research (FHR) Control of Diarrhoeal Diseases and
Respiratory Infections (CDR)
Qualifications Required: Education and skills: Medical degree and advanced
post-graduate qualifications or equivalent training in paediatrics/public
health/epidemiology. Sound knowledge of clinical aspects of diarrhoeal
diseases, ARI control and IMCI in young children; skills in training and
influencing large groups of professionals as well as supervising individual-
or small-group learning of a wide variety of health personnel in the
community, health facilities and hospitals; ability to establish harmonious
relations with Government officials, international colleagues and NGOs.
Knowledge of WHO programmes and policies will be an asset. Experience:
Extensive experience (over 10 years) in the development and implementation
of communicable disease control programmes, including teaching and research
experience at the national level and at least five years' experience in
international programmes and activities relating to CDD, ARI control and
IMCI. Languages: Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other
languages used in SEAR countries desirable. Annual salary (net of tax): U
US$ 56 664 at single rate and US$ 61 090 with primary dependants. Post
Adjustment: 26.4% of the above figures.
