MEDIA ADVISORY - Congressional Briefing on HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean set
June 19

WHY: The Caribbean region has the second highest rate of HIV/AIDS infection
in the world. An estimated 360,000 people are currently living with the
disease. HIV/AIDS impacts every sector of this neighboring region. A
distinguished panel of experts will lend their insights on HIV/AIDS in the
Caribbean. In addition to an overview of the nature of the epidemic in the
region, our panelists will draw on their collective experience working with
HIV/AIDS programs to address best practices, important lessons learned, the
importance of developing global networks, and local capacity building. The
briefing takes place one week before the UN General Assembly Special
Session on HIV/AIDS, and is an opportunity to clarify the unique challenges
facing the Caribbean while the topic of HIV/AIDS is highly visible.
