Strengthening of the Princess Margaret Hospital in the
Commonwealth of Dominica
STARTING: Summer 2001 - DURATION: Eight (8) months.
The consultant should possess post graduate qualifications in hospital
management together with extensive experience at the senior management
level in hospital and health service management. The ideal candidate should
also have successfully implemented similar reforms within a hospital
environment and should have the ability to work effectively as part of a

Paulette Schatz honored with a Kiev's Special Award
CSIH's Youth for Health project director Paulette Schatz was honored with
the Mayor of Kyiv's Special Award at a reception in Ukraine on May 28,
hosted by Mayor Oleksander Omelchenko of the Kyiv City State
Administration. The presentation, which recognized Paulette for
"achievements of high-level professionalism, accomplishments in the field
and a special contribution to creating spiritual and material values"
included a certificate of recognition, a special medal and engraved watch.
The gala ceremony followed the successful "Mayors for Healthy Youth"
meeting attended by the mayors of all Ukrainian cities.
The four-year Youth for Health-Ukraine Canada project was launched in 1998
to focus on the health of young people in Ukraine. It deals with on AIDS
prevention, smoking cessation, and reduction in drug/alcohol abuse and
project activities are taking place mainly in Kyiv, Ukraine's capital. The
main objective is to develop a model that can be adapted elsewhere.
Paulette has worked for CSIH since 1994 when she was appointed manager of
the Partners in Health project which preceded the Youth for Health project
in Ukraine. The CIDA-funded Youth for Health project has received accolades
from national and city governments in Ukraine and negotiations are underway
to extend it until 2007.

Reviews of Health Promotion and Education Online
The Reviews of Health Promotion and Education Online (RHPEO), formerly the
Internet Journal of Health Promotion (IJHP), will be officially launched
on-line at the XVIIth World Conference on Health Promotion and Health
Education in Paris this summer. Michel O'Neill, RHPEO Editor in Chief, will
conduct the inauguration of the new site following the plenary session
on Tuesday morning, July 17.

The International Health Youth Internships program of CSIH currently has a
number of overseas internships available for young health professionals and
information technology specialists interested in public health. Candidates
must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, under 30 and have finished

The Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) is seeking a
Program Officer
Under the direction of the Organizational Development (OD) Coordinator, the
program officer is responsible for the organization and implementation of
the public deliberation program. This program offers opportunities for the
public to deliberate on the issues of poverty and inequity working through
tough policy choices or approaches to find some common ground for action.

Paulette Schatz recoit les honneurs de la ville de Kiev
Paulette Schatz, directrice du projet Jeunes en Sante de la SCSI, a recu
les honneurs de la ville de Kiev au cours d'une ceremonie organisee par le
Conseil municipal de la ville de Kiev qui marquait la fin de la reunion "Mayors for
Healthy Youth" reunissant tous les maires d'Ukraine. Monsieur
Oleksander Omelchenko, maire de Kiev, lui a remis un certificat de
reconnaissance "pour l'excellence du professionnalisme atteint, les
realisations accomplies dans ce domaine et une contribution particuliere au
renouveau des valeurs spirituelles et materielles", ainsi qu'une medaille
et une montre gravees aux armes de la Ville de Kiev.
Le projet de quatre ans Jeunes en Sante Canada-Ukraine a debute en 1998
avec pour principal objectif la sante des jeunes en Ukraine. Ce programme
est centre sur la prevention du SIDA, les mefaits du tabac, la
diminution de l'abus de drogue et/ou d'alcool et des activites sont en
cours principalement a Kiev, capitale de l'Ukraine. Le principal objectif
du projet est d'elaborer un modele pouvant servir dans d'autres villes.
Paulette travaille pour la SCSI depuis 1994. Elle a debute a la direction
du projet Partenaires en sante qui precedait le projet Jeunes en sante en
Ukraine. Ce dernier projet, finance par l'ACDI, a recu les felicitations des
gouvernements municipal et national en Ukraine et des negociations sont en
cours pour le poursuivre jusqu'en 2007.

Critiques sur internet de ressources en promotion de la sante et education
pour la sante
Les "Critiques sur internet de ressources en promotion de la sante et
education pour la sante" (Reviews of Health Promotion and Education Online
- RHPEO), prennent la suite de l'Internet Journal of Health Promotion
(IJHP) et seront lancees officiellement en ligne lors de la XVIIe
Conference mondiale de Promotion de la Sante et d'Education pour la Sante a
Paris en juillet prochain. Michel O'Neill, redacteur en chef de cette
nouvelle publication electronique, fera une presentation du site le mardi 17
juillet a 10h30 a l'issue de la seance pleniere "Apporter les preuves de
l'efficacite de la promotion de la sante."
