Topic: The Social Sciences and the Cuban State

Speakers:
Alberto Alvarez, Department of Political Science, Universite de Montreal
Gerardo Gonzalez Nunez, Department of Economics, Universidad Interamericana,
Puerto Rico

Description of Event:
This event will examine the complex and turbulent relationship between
social scientists and the Cuban state since the Revolution. The
presentations are based on the recently-released book, ?Intelectuales vs.
Revolucion? El Caso del Centro de Estudios Sobre America (CEA), co-authored
by the speakers. Both speakers were researchers at CEA, the Havana-based
research centre, until the mid-1990s.
