We, the Coordinators of the Sharing Strengths Society and
Child & Youth Inter-sectoral Working Group, are in the
process of developing a proposal, "Addressing Youth
Violence: An Inter-sectoral, Integrated Approach for Western
Nova Scotia", to garner funding to support a project across
western Nova Scotia, Canada, that will, among other things,
conduct an environmental scan of existing initiatives and
programs, research 'best practices', and pilot an integrated
approach to remedying youth violence - from the preventative
to the remedial. For our purposes, 'youth' are young people
aged 0-21, and 'violence' includes a range of behaviours
ranging from disruptive or angry outbursts to bullying
(e.g., intimidation, coercion, extortion), verbal abuse,
threats, harassment, self-abuse, physical assault, sexual
assault, and suicide.

Our collective membership and stakeholders include a range
of provincial and federal government departments and
agencies, as well as community organizations.

We are wondering whether others working in the fields of
public health, cross-jurisdictional/inter-sectoral service
development, or youth violence prevention/remediation might
be aware of literature reviews, bibliographies, effective
programs or similar fledgling efforts already in existence.

We would really appreciate hearing from anyone who may have
information or references to share with us as we would like
to benefit from others' ideas and insights as we map out the
trajectory for our new initiative, which we hope will
improve the resiliency and outcomes of youth in our region.
