Erica - the best places to search for such reports would be the Canadian
Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute (www.cflri.ca) and the Leisure
Information Network which houses the national recreation database in Canada
(www.lin.ca). Many provinces have strategies for physical activity to
address the national goal of reducing physical inactivity. Active Ontario
has seven settings in which goals have been set so the school-based one
would be most related to children. The Ontario Active Schools plan could be
viewed at www.activeontario.org or through the managing organization (OPHEA)
at www.;ophea.org - the background documents on which the strategy is based
are on the LIN database.

The Canadian Parks / Recreation Association (CP/RA) has also done work in
the area of recreation strategies for high-risk youth - documents also on
LIN but their organizational web site is at www.cpra.ca

Hope this is useful -

Subject: Physical Fitness in Youth-Recent Canadian Reports?

Hello,

There is a report entitled, "A Report to the President: Promoting Better
Health for Young People Through Physical Activity and Sports" Fall, 2000
available on the CDC web site at
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dash/physact.htm. It details strategies to
promote physical activity in American youth.

Would anyone know of a recent Canadian report detailing national and/or
provincial plans in this area?

Thank you for your help in this matter.
