HUMANITARIAN LOGISTICS SYSTEMS MUST IMPROVE, EXPERTS SAY
WHO and PAHO issue joint press release
Humanitarian supply logistics systems must be effectively coordinated to
help people in disasters or emergency situations, a group of experts has
concluded.
Over 50 logistics experts from international organizations, which make up a
roll call of those most frequently in the forefront in disaster response,
came together last week for the first time at the World Health Organization
(WHO) in Geneva to discuss logistics management systems for humanitarian
assistance in disaster situations.

police, firefighters, Red Cross volunteers, health centre and hospital

CSIH members have still not renewed their membership for 2001. Board
elections are coming up and in order to run for office or vote you must be
a member in good standing of the Society. CSIH continues to grow and we

year more than 100 members were involved in Society projects and
activities.
Plans are well underway for CCIH 2001, which promises to be have an

GROUNDWORK 2001
A week-long series of concerts and community activities in Seattle,
Washington, will be the first North American event in support of FAO's
TeleFood campaign to reduce world hunger. The concerts, organized by
Groundwork 2001 on behalf of the United States Committee for FAO, will take
place from October 14 to 22. They will feature many world-renowned
musicians such as REM, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Pearl Jam, Alanis
Morissette, Dave Matthews, Emmylou Harris, Mana, Wallflowers, Blind Boys of
Alabama, Joe Strummer and Artis the Spoonman.
