Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grants $4.9 million to PAHO o Improve Safety of Blood
for Transfusion in the Americas
The safety of blood used for transfusion in the Americas is set to improve as a result of a
three-year grant for $4.9 million by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that will enable
the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to set up a regional initiative to
strengthen country-level blood safety programs.

Adolescents in Costa Rica Facing Future Heart Problems
In what could be indicative of trends to come in developing countries around the world,
young people in the Central American country of Costa Rica may have to contend with
serious future risks of coronary heart disease, according to an article published recently
in the Pan American Journal of Public Health, the "flagship" journal of the Pan American
Health Organization (PAHO).

Job Opportunity: Health Projects Coordinator
The University of Montreal International Health Unit is responsible for promoting
international health competencies in the university's health sector. Its international
activities include training, research, consulting services, and supporting interventions in
the health field.  The International Health Unit seeks a Health Projects Coordinator to
contribute to the development and managing of its projects. The ideal candidate is an
experienced professional who has already made his/her mark in international health as a
project manager through at least 5 years of experience, and who is interested in working
in the international health activities of the University of Montreal.

Offre d'emploi : Coordonnateur/Coordonnatrice de projets
L'Unite de sante internationale (USI) de l'universite de Montreal est chargee de
promouvoir les competences du secteur de la sante de l'universite sur la scene
internationale. Ses activites internationales concernent la formation, la recherche, la
fourniture d'expertise (consultation) et l'appui a la realisation d'interventions dans le
champ de la sante.  L'USI recherche un coordonnateur/coordonnatrice de projets de
sante pour contribuer au developpement et a la gestion de projets. La personne
recherchee est un(e) professionnel(le) de bon niveau qui a deja contribue a la cooperation
internationale (secteur de la sante) a titre de gestionnaire de projets (5 ans d'experience)
et qui souhaite participer aux activites internationales de l'universite dans ce domaine.
