Dear Subscribers,

The 250 line limit is designed to achieve two objectives, one covering a
loophole that allows unreadable attachments to arrive in your mail box.

First, 250 lines is the equivalent of a 10 page double spaced text (5
pages single spaced). That is a substantial posting and hard to read on
line. We would rather, with such documents, that an abstract be posted and
the full document be available elsewhere, or on request.

Second, CLICK4HP has a "no attachments" policy. This is to reduce the
transmission of viruses and worms - both of which almost always require an
attachment to do their dirty work. This also reduced posting large files
with images, etc. Again an abstract and notice of availability are
preferred there. More important, some email software and server software
convert attachments to MIME or encoded messages in plain text that looks
like line after line of WQEOULNENWEROOO34LLKJ322423OIUGHBKBKLUIY4,MBNI
and is unreadable to most of you. Since those are almost always more than
250 lines, the line limit catches those.

To date one one or two messages have been rejected, and no plain text
encoded messages have gotten through. It is a tradeoff and the benefits
seem to be outweighing the costs.
