Fourth Annual Community Development - Professional Development Day
London, Ontario, May 27, 2005
King's University College

Community Development and Social Justice: Where are we now?

Eric Shragge, author of Activism and Social Change: Lessons for Community
and Local Organizing, will address community work in Canada over the past 30
years.

Katherine Scott, researcher and policy analyst will raise questions from her
report "Funding Matters", which looks at the impact of current funding
arrangements on nonprofits and voluntary sector organizations in Canada.

A panel of local community organizers, Mary Starnaman, Chester Langille and
Jim Mahon, will share their experiences of challenges and opportunities.

Afternoon workshops will cover experiences in engaging youth; empowering
students and teachers to confront hate; grassroots research; mobilizing
citizens to take action; funding strategies; Ontario's rural plan;
mobilizing citizens one family at a time; and linking local and national
food security strategies.

The CD-PD day is proudly presented by the Southwestern Ontario Community
Development Network in partnership with King's University College.
