Research Coordinator for a demonstration project to promote cervical
cancer and breast cancer screening among homeless women.

Project Background: Homeless women face many barriers to obtaining
health care. We are seeking research staff for an innovative demonstration
project whose goal is to improve breast cancer and cervical cancer
screening in this population. The Inner City Health Research Unit
at St. Michael's Hospital is conducting this project in partnership
with a number of community agencies in central and southeast Toronto.
The project provides primary nursing care (general health care,
cancer screening, and health education) at drop-in centers serving
homeless and marginally housed women. Evaluation of the project
will involve a series of personal interviews with women at drop-in
centers and review of medical records.

Job Description: The study coordinator will be responsible for day-
to-day management of the project. Duties will include coordination
of activities with community agencies, administrative management,
evaluation of the project through in-person interviews with homeless
women, data collection through the request and review of medical
records at multiple sites, supervision of a research assistant, data
analysis, and report preparation. Previous experience in research
project coordination is required, with proficiency in SPSS an asset.
The ability to work collaboratively with numerous nurses, physicians,
and community agencies and to conduct interviews with disadvantaged
women in an atmosphere of trust and respect is required.

Work Terms: Full-time
Salary: Commensurate with training and experience
Start Date: April 1st, 2002
