Subject: Final Hot Topic in Physical Activity:
The Health-Care Costs of Physical Inactivity in Canada

***************************************************************************

SummerActive is a community-based campaign that aims to increase awareness
about the importance of physical activity to health. SummerActive is
sponsored by the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation
and Alberta Community Development in partnership with Health Canada and
other organizations.

To help promote SummerActive, the Alberta Centre for Active Living
(www.centre4activeliving.ca) recently produced a series of five Hot Topics
in Physical Activity. You can download all of these topics from the Centre’s
web site at http://www.centre4activeliving.ca/Education/HotTopics.html. Each
information sheet contains useful material and links to relevant web sites.
Topics include

- The Role of Physical Activity in Preventing Chronic Disease (released May
15)

- Helping Children and Youth Become More Active (released May 22)

- The Role of Physical Activity in Ageing Well (released May 29)

- The Role of Active Living in the Workplace (released June 5)

- The Health-Care Costs of Physical Inactivity in Canada (released June 19)

The Alberta Centre for Active Living is producing a report on the costs of
physical inactivity in Alberta that will be available later this year.
