For a further elaboration of the Ron Labonte/ SPHERU references on the
impact of globalization of health that Dennis Raphael suggested, please look
at:

1. The CLICK4HP list archives at
http://listserv.yorku.ca/archives/click4hp.html and search for 'Labonte and
global'. One of the key references is a very long letter that Ron Labonte
wrote for the Canadian Public Health Association on the Multilaterial
Agreement on Investments and the World Trade Organization (MAI) in 1997
about the direct links of globalization and impacts on health of
populations. You can see the full letter on the list by clicking the long
link below
http://sundial.ccs.yorku.ca/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind9712&L=click4hp&P=R5584
There is a related piece by Lawrence Green responding to Ron Labonte's
messages about the MAI and health impacts. See it at
http://sundial.ccs.yorku.ca/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind9703&L=click4hp&P=R2783

2. The web page for Ronald Labonte at the University of Saskatchewan
includes a listing of his publications, many of which are related to this
topic. See http://www.usask.ca/healthsci/che/faculty/ron_labonte.htm and
note the following references:
Labonte, R. (2002, in press) Globalization, Health and Reform of the World
Trade Organization, Critical Public Health.

Labonte, R. (2001) Globalization and Reform of the World Trade Organization,
Canadian Journal of Public Health 92(4) (Commentary):248-9.

Labonte, R. (2001) International Governance and Reform of the World Trade
Organization, Health Education Research 16(4):511-16.

Labonte, R. (2001) Liberalisation, Health and the World Trade Organisation,
Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health 55(6):620-1.

3. SPHERU = Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit.
Access a number of Ron's papers on globalization and health in Adobe Acrobat
directly from the website at http://www.spheru.ca/reports/ In particular
you may be interested in his paper on Health, Globalization and Global
Health Research Priorities at
http://www.spheru.ca/PDF%20Files/IPPH%20Short%20Brief%20PDF.pdf

And I am certain that there are many other good resources! Thanks for the
interesting request.

Alison Stirling,
co-facilitator CLICK4HP

-----Original Message-----

Could anyone point me in the direction of information about the impact of
globalization on health?

Thanks.
