I absolutely agree. One of the biggest problems is the gap in North America
between "health promotion theory and concepts" and action on the ground by
health authorities and health workers. In contrast, many in the social
development and social welfare sector work on these issues but have little voice
and influence as "health" is of more current focus than "justice or human
development" and health discourse is limited to healthy lifestyles and
biomedical miracle "breakthroughs" . The good news is that in Europe and
elsewhere there is frequently a smaller gap between concepts, action, and
government policy. "Health Policy" in Europe is as close to health promotion as
one can ever hope to achieve.
