Research Associate
                   Canadian Centre on Disability Studies
                                   2004

The Canadian Centre on Disability Studies is a consumer directed,
university-affiliated Centre which responds to global disability needs and
promotes and conducts research and education on disability issues. The
Centre's activities promote the presence, participation, accessibility and
self-determination of all persons with disabilities, their families and
their chosen advocates in their communities - national and international.
The Centre employs 12 staff people, has a budget of over a million dollars,
and is affiliated with the University of Manitoba (UM) and the University
of Winnipeg (UW). We are recognized as the hub of a multi-department
research network at the UM, where we have successfully assisted in the
development of a Master's program in Disability Studies. Other examples of
our activities include that we have completed over 30 research projects and
have an active international program in Russia and Ukraine.

The Position:
This is a full time position with a salary range of $30,000 to $40,000
depending on qualifications.  The successful applicant will be directly
accountable to the Royal Bank Research Chair (the Centre's Research
Director).

Qualifications:
?     The successful applicant will have a Masters degree or equivalent.
?     Have good organizational skills, experience in writing research
proposals and reporting on research grants
?     Experience in carrying out research activities including focus
groups, data analysis and utilizing participatory research methodology
?     Experience in qualitative research methodology required; experience
in quantitative methodology an asset
?     Qualified individuals who have a personal connection with the
disability community are encouraged to apply
?     Ability to communicate in both English and French an asset

Responsibilities:
The Royal Bank Research Chair is working on a wide range of research
projects in partnership with the disability community and academic
researchers.  This person will work closely with the Research Chair in
carrying out the research projects, writing grant proposals and initiating
new research ideas based on a partnership model.  Initially, the person
will assist in carrying out existing projects. CCDS is interested in a
broad range of disability related research issues including employment,
gender, technology, youth, and children, universal design, economics,
policy, international issues and aboriginal concerns around disability.
