CALL FOR INFORMATION: GLOBAL HEALTH RESEARCH INVENTORY

The Coalition for Global Health Research, a group jointly funded by
Health Canada, CIDA, IDRC and CIHR, is compiling a global health
research inventory that will focus on research targeting diseases or
conditions of low- and middle-income countries.  The Coalition is
seeking information from: all Canadian scientists receiving at least 25%
of their funding or spending 25% or more of their work time carrying out
global health research; all global health research partnerships that
Canadians and their universities are involved in; all graduate-level
global health research courses; and all awards from Canadian
universities and government organizations providing support for global

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR FIRST NATIONS AND INUIT HEALTH POLICY RESEARCH
FRAMEWORK

The Health Policy Research Program (HPRP) funds research that
contributes to an evidence base for Health Canada's policy decisions.
Health Canada is inviting proposals for a workshop to develop the first
phase of a First Nations and Inuit Health Policy Research Framework. The
goal of the first phase is to identify research questions across health
domains of importance to public policy for First Nations and Inuit and
to develop appropriate methodologies for addressing the research
questions in a manner that will inform the policy decision-making
process. The deadline to submit a proposal is June 10, 2002.  Further

SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR EQUITY
IN HEALTH

The Second International Conference of the International Society for
Equity in Health (ISEqH) will be held in Toronto, June 14-16, 2002.  The
Conference theme is “Equity: Research in the Service of Policy and
Advocacy for Health and Health Services.” ISEqH welcomes those
interested in equity in health and health services to share their
expertise and experience through an international cross-disciplinary
forum.  ISEqH wishes to promote equity in health and health services
internationally through research, education, publication, and

MORE YOUNG ADULTS BEING DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER IN CANADA

The number of Canadians between the ages of 20 and 44 being diagnosed
with cancer is increasing slightly with significant increases for some
cancers, according to the latest statistics released by the Canadian
Cancer Society in collaboration with Health Canada, Statistics Canada
and provincial/territorial cancer registries.

TWO DOCUMENTARIES FROM THE “SOCIETE MER ET MONDE”

The “Société Mer et Monde” works with non-governmental organizations in
developing countries to support the efforts of women working to better
their local living conditions and their children’s lives.  Two
documentaries created by interns with “Mer et Monde” are now available.
“De la montaña a la calle” documents the problems in Honduras facing
street youth and families living in the periphery of Tegucigalpa (in
Spanish with French subtitles).  “Sortir de soi” follows volunteers in
Senegal as they reflect on new ways of thinking and working towards
development (in French).  The documentaries are available on one VHS
cassette for $CAN 15.00 + 5.00 for shipping and handling.  To order,

JOB OPPORTUNITY: PROGRAM DIRECTOR FOR CODEVELOPMENT CANADA

CoDevelopment Canada, a Vancouver-based NGO that supports sustainable
development with partners in Latin America and Cuba, invites
applications for a permanent, full-time Program Director to join their
staff team.  Duties would include the management, coordination,
reporting and monitoring of overseas projects associated with
CoDevelopment Canada, as well as the development and maintenance of
relations with Latin American partners and Canadian union and community
partners. The preparation and presentation of educational materials on
CoDevelopment Canada’s work will also be part of the successful

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY IN BENIN, AFRICA FOR THE WORLD UNIVERSITY SERVICE

PAHO 2003 TRAINING PROGRAM IN INTERNATIONAL HEALTH

Health professionals living in the Americas, who have leadership skills
as well as an intense interest in the international dimensions of
health, are invited to apply for the Pan American Health Organization's
17th Training Program in International Health (TPIH-2003). The training
process involves participants in a work-study format at PAHO for a
period of 11 months starting January 27, 2003.
