Seeing Through the S.M.O.G - Navigating the Health Literacy Maze
Continuing Education course being offered as part of the Canadian Health
Libraries Association /Association des bibliothèques de la santé du Canada
Conference 2002

Waterloo, Ontario, May 28, 2002
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Instructor: Marietta Forster-Haberer (Health Information Specialist,
Consumer Health Information Service, Toronto)

With nearly half of all Canadians having difficulty with reading materials
encountered in everyday life (IALS 1995), health literacy is a 'burning
health issue'. This workshop seeks to explore the connection between
literacy and health, examine readability tools like S.M.O.G. (Simple Measure
Of Gobbledegook) and suggest ways in which health librarians, educators, and
professionals can play a role in shaping tomorrow's health information
scene.

Cost: $105 CHLA/ABSC or MLA Members, $170 Non-Members
