CSIH INTERNATIONAL HEALTH INTERNSHIPS 2002-2003

The Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) is still recruiting
for International Health Internships! NetCorps Canada International
internships are funded through Industry Canada and offer exciting
volunteer internships in developing countries to young adults with
appropriate skills in information and communication technologies. CSIH
implements several of these internships and adds a health interest to
the technological aspects. CSIH is also implementing several internships
for CIDA this year. These internships focus on International Development
and health. Job descriptions of current internships can be found at:
http://www.csih.org/what/Internships/currintern.htm. To be informed
when new internships are posted, sign up for the CSIH distribution list!

COMMISSION ON THE FUTURE OF HEALTH CARE IN CANADA: E-SURVEYS

To enable Canadians to become better informed about some of the key
challenges confronting their health care system, the Commission on the
Future of Health Care in Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Health
Services Research Foundation, has developed nine e-surveys. Each
e-survey provides background information, explores possible courses of
action and their pros and cons, and asks participants to express their
views on them. The e-surveys will provide the Commission with an insight
into what Canadians expect from their health care system. To access the
first three surveys, click on the links below:

HEALTH CANADA LAUNCHES HEPATITIS C "GET THE FACTS" PUBLIC AWARENESS
CAMPAIGN

Health Canada has launched a national public awareness campaign designed
to inform Canadians about hepatitis C. This infectious disease of the
liver is caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). It is usually spread
through direct contact with infected blood. An estimated 240,000
Canadians are infected with the hepatitis C virus and, because there are
usually no symptoms, 70 per cent of them are unaware. The objective of
the hepatitis C "Get the Facts" campaign is to raise awareness of the
risk factors of this disease. The campaign's public education materials
include a brochure with general information about the virus, a poster
and bookmark as well as an information sheet for health professionals. A
website has also been developed to provide information on prevention,
risk behaviours and treatment; it can be accessed at
http://healthcanada.ca/hepc. For more information on the campaign,
visit: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/english/media/releases/2002/2002_39.htm.
