In Waterloo Region, one of the ways that the Board of Education is trying to cope with decreased funding is to amalgamate smaller rural schools. This recent announcement has stunned several rural groups who believe small local schools to be fundamental to their sense of community.

Can anyone direct me to literature that establishes links between a Healthy Communities concept and schools as community hubs?

Thanks,

Grace Ross,
Manager, Youth Health Programs
Waterloo Region Community Health Department
