Canadian Cancer Society
CANADIAN HEALTH NETWORK PROJECT:
 PARTNERSHIP AND HEALTH PROMOTION CONSULTANT


Overview

The Canadian Cancer Society is an Affiliate partner of the Canadian Health
Network (CHN).  To this end, the Canadian Cancer Society supports the CHN
operations by providing expert advice on web site content. The Canadian
Cancer Society is part of a distributed network of organizations
identifying, developing and selecting health information resources in both
official languages. This is done through the development of a national
network of cancer information providers. The Partnership and Health
Promotion Consultant reports to the CHN Project Manager and will work
closely with the Information Science Specialist.


Responsibilities

*         develop, nurture and support a network of organizations that
provides credible health promotion and disease prevention information in
cancer
*         facilitate and coordinate processes for the review of existing CHN
Web site content on cancer and make recommendations for the inclusion of new
material as part of the CHN Web site, primarily by facilitating
content-specific working groups
*         facilitate and coordinate the update of the Frequently Asked
Questions on cancer
*         liaise with the CHN Health Canada Operational Centre, Regional
Operating Partners, Affiliates and other partners
*         research and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of consumer health
issues related to cancer and cancer control
*         develop and facilitate communication among network members,
including active leadership in a electronic list serve
*         identify and take leadership for promotion and marketing
opportunities for CHN
*         liaise with Cancer Information Service staff to ensure effective
responses to health information requests
*         participate in training events as needed


Qualifications

*         university degree in a health discipline
*         experience in developing and supporting collaborative
relationships among NGO's
*         extensive knowledge of the issues and players in current cancer
research and control
*         background and/or experience in health promotion and determinants
of health
*         demonstrated ability to translate health promotion concepts into
practical information service applications
*         excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
*         well-organized and detail-oriented
*         proactive, self starter who displays initiative in taking on new
projects and multi-tasking in a rapidly changing work environment
*         sensitivity to linguistic and cultural diversity
*         knowledge of Internet technology
*         French fluency desirable
