I would like to share with the listserv members the course that I am
presenting June 27-30, 2002 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The course is
called "Medicine and Wisdom" and will be taught by the Tibetan lama,
Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, with whom I had a close relationship in Nepal.
The course will explore the concepts of wisdom and compassion as they
apply to the practice of Western medicine. Some of you may remember that
we presented a similar course in September of 2000 called "Medicine and
Compassion."

There is a connection between truly caring about one's patients and
finding intelligent solutions to their problems. Applying compassion
with wisdom is a way to be more effective in one's work, and to avoid the
risk of professional burnout. While knowledge can be increased through
study, we tend to view wisdom as something that gradually develops
following an indeterminate combination of experience and personal
insight. Tibetan Buddhist philosophy presents ways to view wisdom and
compassion as something that can be directly trained in.

Or you can e-mail Dr. Shlim with your mailing address to receive a
printed brochure in about a month.

Warmly, David
