This is an exciting time to join the Public Health Division in the City of Toronto, and make your contribution in the following key role.

 

In accordance with the Local 79 harmonization, pay equity and job evaluation arbitration award for CUPE Local 79 Full-time Unit dated May 18, 2005, the successful candidate(s) may be paid equivalent to the lowest wage rate assigned to the current employees in the posted job classification.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  a.. Contributes to the mission, strategic direction, and operational planning for TPH, the Planning and Policy Directorate, and relevant program areas on issues related to tobacco control 
  b.. Provides support to the managers and coordinators for the Tobacco Control Area Network (TCAN) as funded by Smoke Free Ontario 
  c.. Assesses needs, analyzes information, plans, develops and evaluates health promotion strategies related to tobacco control, for a diverse community, in collaboration with program staff and Planning and Policy staff 
  d.. Critically analyzes research, literature, legislative documents, policy reports, and governmental/non-governmental papers to inform decisions 
  e.. Facilitates the transfer of knowledge regarding tobacco control to staff and community professionals 
  f.. Mentors new staff and students 
  g.. Acts as a consultant to the Division, Corporation, and external groups on tobacco control 
  h.. Participates in and/or chairs internal and external committees 
  i.. Liaises with external groups (e.g. university faculty, other government agencies, non-governmental agencies) on tobacco control issues 
  j.. Builds community partnerships and advocacy approaches to further the tobacco control agenda 
  k.. Prepares reports, briefing papers, requests for proposals, funding proposals, and correspondence related to tobacco control for managers, directors, Divisional Management Team, Medical Officer of Health and the Board of Health
 

Key Qualifications:

 

  1.. Master’s degree preparation in Health or Social Sciences or related area or equivalent combination of a baccalaureate degree with experience. 
  2.. Experience in developing and implementing health promotion/disease prevention programs and in applying health promotion theory. 
  3.. Experience in the areas of needs assessments, program planning including logic model development and evaluation, social marketing, research, analysis of literature, advocacy and policy development. 
  4.. Knowledge of current tobacco control initiatives and other health related issues 
  5.. Experience with Word, PowerPoint and Excel database applications. 
  6.. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  7.. Knowledge and ability to apply the determinants of health, access and equity principles. 
  8.. Demonstrated organizational skills. 
  9.. Able to work cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary team. 
  10.. Excellent project management abilities. 
  11.. Ability to foster relationships with stakeholders within Toronto Public Health and within the community. 
  12.. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include overtime, shift work, evenings and weekends. 
  13.. Ability to prepare reports (i.e. funding proposals, Board of Health reports, etc.)
