Hello :)

As of this date I have not received ANY papers for this session.

SAMLA sent me e-mail asking what we are doing with this session.

I have let them know that I have not received any papers.

I don't know if people in the AHSA would like to have a meeting scheduled at this SAMLA?

Or what should be done.

2014 Conference Deadlines

Below please find a list of deadlines for SAMLA 86. Please note that these = dates are subject to change. Please check back often for updates to the SAM= LA 86 Deadlines. These dates can also be found in the SAMLA Calendar.

February 14th
Deadline for receiving Session Proposals / Calls for Papers in order to hav= e your call included in SAMLA News.

April 1st
Deadline for submitting Honorary Member Award nominations.

May 1st
Deadline for submitting Graduate Student Essay Award nominations.=20

May 3rd
Deadline for submitting SAMLA Studies Award nominations.=20

May 30th
Deadline for submitting Special Session proposals. To submit a Special Sess= ion proposal, please complete the Session Proposals / Calls for Papers form=  online.

June 20th
Deadline for submitting the Session Information form (including A/V require= ments, panelists' contact information and paper titles). To submit, please = complete the Session Information form online.


19th and 20th century authors use of humor on environmental/sustainability = issues.

The American Humor Studies Association seeks papers for a panel, which is f= ocusing on 19th and 20th century authors and their use of humor on environm= ental/sustainability issues. The panel takes place for the 2014 South Atlan= tic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) Conference at the Marriott Atlanta,=  GA from November 7-9, 2014. This panel will examine how humor and sustaina= bility can work together through various authors, such as, Caroline Kirklan= d, Mark Twain (Roughing It/Life on the Mississippi), Edward Abbey, Dr. Seus= s, Carl Hiassen, Diane Ackerman, Bill Bryson the definitely unsustainable h= unting trips of tall tale folks like Davy Crockett, showing how they use hu= mor for either pro or con sustainability in their works.=20
